Aglow Bridal Parade Supports Women's Refuge

In October Rockingham Aglow hosted a vintage bridal fashion parade and afternoon tea as a fundraiser for the Lucy Saw Centre in Rockingham.

The Bridal Fashion Parade Through the Ages showcased 40 bridal dresses, ranging in age from the 1940's through to the present. 19 women volunteered to model the dresses donated by members of the public.

The money raised will go to support the Lucy Saw Women's Refuge, who help women who are escaping family or domestic violence.

Cherie, president of Aglow Rockingham, says it was a God-given idea to hold a bridal fashion parade as a fundraising event. Kerry-Ellen Logan undergirded the event by speaking about the importance of God’s gift of marriage and sharing scripture.

Local businesses donated their products and services to the event to add finishing touches to make the day complete.

Cherie said God was in all the planning, particularly in the choice of the young women who volunteered their time to model the dresses – and each one ended up having a perfect dress to wear. There was a place for all of them. Cherie mentored the models, and real relationships were formed throughout the planning of the event.

The team of volunteers, made up of people from Aglow, the church where the event was held, and members of the public, all worked tirelessly to put on a fantastic afternoon.

It was an afternoon of sharing, reminiscing and celebrating marriage.

Cherie was thrilled to be able to put on an event that honoured God, and provided practical support to an organisation that does important work in the local community.
